Rufus featuring Chaka Khan finally re-united! They performed on the ship
during Smooth Jazz Cruise 2009 hosted by Wayman Tisdale as a special
performer. Historical Moment!!! :)

Here's my report on the cruise......all is in my language, Japanese, tho!

Tony toured with Brian Culbertson for his "A Soulful Christmas Tour" with
Amanda. They even performed 5 Rufus songs for his show!

Tony and Kevin's Rufus performed at Blue Note Tokyo!
The band members were : Tony Maiden( g, vo), Kevin Murphy (keys),
Donnell Spencer Jr. (dr), Lenny Castro (per), Brian Culbertson (key, tb)
Maysa Leak (vo), Val Young (vo), Madame Dee (vo), Amanda Maiden (vo),
Michiko Hill (key), Robert Hill (b), Darrell Crooks (g).

Rufus was chosen by Blue Note Tokyo to be featured on their BS TV
program called "Speak In Music". They aired Rufus show in December
and January.

--Nov 8 & 9, 2008 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tony and his dauthers, Amanda (singer) and Gabby (pro snowboarder /
modeling for NIKITA) were in Asakusa for filming a Web TV program of
the biggest Japanese educational publisher, Benesse Corporation. The
program will be released on Feb 25, 2009 in a private network for their
students/customers.

Tony is coming to Japan with Chaka!!
They will perform at Billboard Live Tokyo from June 2 to 7 and Osaka
from June 9 to 11. ALL the tickets are completely SOLD OUT!!!

Tony jumped in a local jazz band last night!
It was Roosebelt Hotel in Hollywood, CA. Here's part of his performance
that I added to YouTube. I took this video with my small cellphone and
also I couldn't encode the clip correctly...so there's something wrong
with it...the video plays too fast and the audio is delaying...I can't fix
it, sorry!lol

Tony had an offer from the biggest educational publisher in Japan,
Benesse Corporation, to contribute several songs and also appear in one of
the issues with his daughters. It's a Web TV program for the members only.

I flew back to Los Angeles on my spring vacation and happened to
be able to see Tony performed at Baked Potato in LA on May 4!
The other band members were:
　ABRHAM LABORIAL on BASS
　BILL MAXWELL on DRUMS
　GREGG MATHIESON on KEYS
The quality of their performance was out of this world! Amazing!!!
I can say it was one of the BEST gigs I have ever seen!!

Yes, Tony was in Japan to perform at Blue Note Tokyo and Tokyo Jazz Festival as Dave Koz band. I will make a pix page and write a live report soon!

I was so blessed to be able to see his performance every night and spent much time off stage with him and his wife as well.

I was blessed enough to have a great opportunity to meet the man
Tony Maiden and his beautiful wife in California on July 8th.
We talked about the undergoing Rufus project called

"The House That RUFUS Built"

It'll be all about Rufus...the history, behind the scene stories,
tour, merchandise, website, etc. etc.!! The project will be got
started with a concert on "BB Jazz Festival" in Huntington Beach
California on September 9!!
